Dear Dr. Whitley,
I am a junior high teacher and came across your book while looking for resources on helping underachieving students. I am truly amazed at the ideas you present in your book! You have confirmed my own theories about the underlying issues and answers for these students. Your book is a breath of fresh air amidst the psychobabble of our time!
I teach primarily remedial math students and see the destructive behavior patterns beginning in many of my students. I have spent countless hours being the one assigned by well meaning school psychologists and administrators to organize, tutor, and confront these chronic underachievers, all to no avail. Parents have thrown up their hands and declared themselves ineffective and helpless. They assume it must be the school’s job to fix their child and when the miracles don’t happen, which they never have in my experience; it is the school’s fault.
Your book is the first one I have seen that correctly addresses the cause and the cure for underachievement. I want to be able to get this message out to parents and will be recommending your book to my administrators and our school psychologist. If there are any additional resources or specific advice you have for teachers, I would be very interested.
